BEM3 / YPL115C Phenotype

Phenotype annotations for a gene are curated single mutant phenotypes that require an observable (e.g., "cell shape"), a qualifier (e.g., "abnormal"), a mutant type (e.g., null), strain background, and a reference. In addition, annotations are classified as classical genetics or high-throughput (e.g., large scale survey, systematic mutation set). Whenever possible, allele information and additional details are provided.

Non-essential gene; null mutant has decreased starvation resistance and decreased competitive fitness in minimal, rich and respiratory growth media; null mutant has several morphological defects including peanut-shaped, finger-shaped, and misshapen cells, as well as cells with elongated buds; null mutant fails to depolarize the actin cytoskeleton during replication stress, resulting in bud elongation; null mutant displays a shorter initiation period for shmoo formation; overexpression is toxic, resulting in large cells with delayed actin polarization at bud emergence, an unbudded arrest and increased inviability; overexpression of a catalytically inactive mutant is in contrast non toxic and results in increased polarization of the actin cytoskeleton, but a reduced ability to undergo bud emergence, with bud elongation and hyperpolarization


A phenotype is defined as an observable (e.g., apoptosis) and a qualifier (e.g., increased). There may be more than one row with the same phenotype if that phenotype was observed in separate studies or in different conditions, strains, alleles, etc.
