New Categories

Over the past few years, SGD has developed new tools that have allowed our users to perform comparative, functional, and large-scale analyses of the yeast genome. To reflect this expansion of resources available at SGD, we have introduced 3 new categories in the site reorganization:

GO Resources
Homology & Comparisons
Function & Expression

New tools have been created that take advantage of the GO terms associated with SGD genes. GO-Slim Mapper and GO Term Finder can be used to determine if a cluster of genes has similar localization patterns, is involved in similar processes, or has similar functions. These tools can be found under the new GO Resources category.

Many tools and resources previously available under the 'Sequence Analysis & Tools' category have been reorganized according to their primary application.

Examples:

Resources that allow you to look for structural homologs (PDB Homolog Query) or common motifs (Yeast Protein Motif Query) in S. cerevisiae can now be found under the Homology & Comparisons cateogory.

Users looking for Expression Connection can find it in the Function & Expression Category.

Reorganized Links

In addition to creating new categories, direct links to popular tools and pages have been added to the homepage. We hope that this will help you navigate through our site.

Several prominent links on the previous homepage have been changed as well.

'Yeast WWW sites' has been renamed 'External Links'. Links to useful web pages outside of SGD can still be found on this page. The links have been updated and better organized.
A direct link to 'Gene Registry' can still be found on the homepage. It is now available under the 'Submit Data' category.
A direct link to 'Literature' can be found under the 'Search Options' category
A direct link to 'Maps' can be found under the 'Analysis & Tools' category

Description of Categories

To help you find the tool or resource, here is a brief description of each major categories at SGD. Many of our tools are located under multiple categories. If you are unable to find what you are looking for, please refer to our sitemap or contact SGD.

Category Name	Description
Search Options	Lists all available searches at SGD, including searches for gene names, protein information, colleague information, and curated literature at SGD. Also contains links to search tools that search multiple databases or datasets, such as Global Gene Hunter, Function Junction, and Expression Connection.
Help Resources	A compilation of pages to help users learn how to use the many information resources and tools at SGD.
Analysis & Tools	Contains links to DNA and protein sequence analysis tools, such as BLAST, Gene/Sequence Resources, and PatMatch, as well as genetic maps. Is a combination of the previous 'Sequence Analysis & Tools' and 'Maps' categories.
Homology & Comparison	Lists resources and tools at SGD that allow users to find homologies between sequences within S. cerevisiae as well as regions of homology between S. cerevisiae and other species.
Function & Expression	Lists resources and tools at SGD that allow users to find function and expression data about a particular gene product.
GO Resources	Lists resources and tools that take advantage of the SGD GO annotations.
Community Info	Contains links to search for colleagues, yeast labs, and yeast conferences.
Submit Data	Lists all forms used to submit data to SGD, including gene registry, colleague updates, and contacting SGD.
Download Data	Contains links to all data available for downloading or viewing at SGD, including the anonymous FTP site and the systematic sequencing tables.
External Links	Lists links to other useful resources on the web. It is not an exhaustive list of resources.
About SGD	Contains information about SGD and its staff as well as how to cite SGD.
