Interested in Participating in the FAO Project?

There are many tasks associated with building an ontology. We would greatly appreciate suggestions from experts about terms, definitions, or the structure of the ontology.

History of the FAO

The FAO project began in 2003. It was originally intended to describe the anatomy of all microbes, but was scaled back to cover fungi only. The list of contributors on the Project Participants page represents scientists who agreed to advise on the project in 2003. After its initial start, the project was quiescent for several years. In 2009, the FAO is now in use to indicate the anatomical structures affected by mutant phenotypes in the Aspergillus Genome Database and in the Magnaporthe oryzae Community Database. Current development of the ontology will focus on Ascomycete anatomy, unless there is interest in collaboration from the Basidiomycete or other fungal research communities.

Suggest Terms

If there is a structure(s) found in the fungal kingdom you would like added to the FAO, you can send your request to FAO developers via the fungal-ontology email list. You must be subscribed to the list to post a message to it (see below). In your message please include the term name(s), a definition(s), a reference(s), and placement in the ontology. It will be helpful if you first review some basic guidelines for ontology building before you make your suggestions. We try to respond to all requests withing one or two working days.

Have a Question?

You may pose questions to developers and project participants by sending an e-mail to the fungal-ontology e-mail list. You must be subscribed to the list to post a message to it (see below). We try to respond to all requests within one or two working days. (You might also look at the FAQ for answers to frequent questions.)

E-mail List

The fungal-ontology is the discussion list for the FAO project. To make term suggestions or ask a question of developers or send a message to developers, you can send an e-mail to the fungal-ontology list, however, you must first subscribe to the list.
