The Saccharomyces Genome Database (SGD; ./ ) is a public resource of gene, protein, and sequence information for the budding yeast S. cerevisiae. The bulk of the information is manually identified and extracted from published literature by scientific curators. The increased availability of the full text of journal articles poses a challenge for scientific curators and the scientific community to identify relevant publications within a growing body of literature. By customizing the Textpresso software developed by Wormbase programmers at CalTech, SGD has implemented a Full-text Search ( ./textpresso/ ). This resource searches the entire text of each journal article based on keywords (such as a gene name or protein name) alone or in combination with optional categories of terms (such as a cellular compartment). The results identify sentences in the full text that contain matches to the keyword and/or category, providing a subset of publications to examine. This resource currently searches 14,000 full-text yeast related journal articles and will be updated on a regular basis. The Full-text Search at SGD is a valuable tool that will help the scientific community identify literature relevant to specific questions about the biology of S. cerevisiae. SGD is funded by the US National Human Genome Research Institute.
