Fernandez-Martinez J and Rout MP  (2009) Nuclear pore complex biogenesis. Curr Opin Cell Biol 21(4):603-12

Abstract: Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) are the sole mediators of transport between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. NPCs have a life cycle: they assemble, disassemble, turnover, and age. The molecular mechanisms governing these different vital steps are beginning to emerge, suggesting key roles for the core structural scaffold of the NPC and auxiliary factors in the assembly of this large macromolecular complex, and connections between NPC maintenance, NPC turnover, and aging of the cell.
