ENS2 Locus History Help

Nomenclature History
Standard Name Reference
ENS2 Nakagawa K, et al.  (1991) A maturase-like subunit of the sequence-specific endonuclease endo.SceI from yeast mitochondria. J Biol Chem 266(3):1977-84
Nomenclature History Notes
DateNote
2003-12-09SceI has been used to refer to three different endonucleases: I-SceI, encoded by SCEI/OMEGA; Endo.SceI, composed of Ssc1p/Yjr045p and the mitochondrially-encoded Ens2p; and PI-SCEI/VDE, the TFP1-derived endonuclease.
Other Notes
DateNote
2003-03-04Not to be confused with I-SceI, which is a mitochondrial nuclease encoded by the intron of the 21S_rRNA gene, or with PI-SceI, which is an endonuclease derived from the VDE protein intein of TFP1/YDL185W.
Mapping Notes
DateNote
1997-10-20Edition 14: The mitochondrial locus, RF3, exhibits polymorphism among yeast strains. In some strains, the frame is interrupted by GC clusters. In others, the continuity of the frame results in the functional gene, ENS2, encoding the smaller subunit of Endo.SceI
