Nomenclature History Notes
DateNote
2011-02-07YDR108W was originally named GSG1 (General Sporulation Gene), based on its identification as a spontaneously arising sporulation defective mutant with delayed pre-meiotic DNA synthesis. The name was changed to TRS85 (TRapp Subunit) in February 2011 based on a request from the community. This change was requested as the name TRS85 is more frequently used in the literature by yeast researchers, and more accurately reflects the function of this 85 kD protein as a subunit of TRAPP (TRAnsport Protein Particle or TRAfficking Protein Particle). TRS85 was identified in screens for mutants defective in the cytoplasm-to-vacuole transport (CVT) pathway, macroautophagy and pexophagy. It was also found to be a specific component of TRAPPIII, a form of TRAPP that functions as an autophagy-specific GEF for Ypt1p and is required for a membrane-tethering event associated with CVT vesicle and autophagosome formation.
