Nomenclature History Notes
DateNote
2005-07-08PAK1 used to be the Standard Name for YER129W. The concerned researchers agreed to change this standard name to SAK1 for the following reasons. PAK1 acronym refers to p21 Activated Kinase in mammalian system and the gene product of YER129W is not related to this kinase. Searching for PAK1 causes confusion in the literature and hence this gene name was changed to SAK1.
2003-12-09PAK1 has been used to refer to both YER129W, a protein kinase that has been shown to phosphorylate Snf1p, and PRK1/YIL095W, a protein kinase involved in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. Note that neither protein is the ortholog of the mammalian p21-activated protein kinase PAK1.

1997-10-20Edition 14: The name PAK1 has also been used to refer to the PRK1 gene on chromosome IX which also encodes a protein kinase
