SUMMARY PARAGRAPH for APE2
APE2 encodes one of four leucine aminopeptidases in yeast (5). It has sequence similarity to members of the zinc-dependent metallopeptidase gene family (3). Ape2p seems to be involved in peptide metabolism, in the cellular supply of leucine from externally offered leucine-containing dipeptide substrates (2, 5). Ape2p has also been referred to as Lap1p, and aminopeptidase yscII (3). Ape2p is distributed in the periplasmic space and cytoplasm (3).
