TEL12R-TR2 is a 125-bp internal stretch of telomeric repeats on the right arm of chromosome XII. The telomeric repeat is a G-rich terminal sequence of the form (TG1-3)n or more precisely ((TG)1-6TG2-3)n (1). The repeats are maintained by telomerase and there is generally 300(+/-)75 bp of TG1-3 at a given end (1). Telomeric repeats function in completing chromosome replication and protecting the ends from degradation and end-to-end fusions (1).

Other features of TEL12R, the right telomeric region of chromosome XII, include an X element core sequence TEL12R-XC, a region of X element combinatorial repeats TEL12R-XR, an additional internal stretch of telomeric repeats TEL12R-TR1, and two long Y' elements (TEL12R-YP1, TEL12R-YP2).
