SUMMARY PARAGRAPH for MSB1
MSB1 was first identified as a high-copy suppressor of a temperature sensitive cdc24 mutation, and was also found to suppress mutations in cdc42 (1). Because of these genetic interactions with genes involved in the establishment of cell polarity and bud formation, Msb1p is thought to play a role in cell morphogenesis. Cells mutant for the genes BEM1 and BEM2, thought to be involved in bud emergence, require MSB1 for viability (4). A deletion of MSB1 does not produce a readily detectable phenotype (4).
