SUMMARY PARAGRAPH for MRF1
MRF1 encodes a mitochondrial peptide chain release factor that terminates translation in response to the termination codons UAA and UAG (1, 3). MRF1 has homologs in E. coli and Kluyveromyces lactis (1, 4). mrf1 mutants exhibit respiratory growth defects, and expression of the Kluyveromyces lactis MRF1 gene complements this phenotype (1, 4).
Note: ETR1/YBR026C encoding a 2-enoyl thioester reductase has also been referred to as MRF1 in the literature.
