Research Interests We are interested in how dsRNAs are recognized by cellular proteins and how they are regulated in the cell to achieve a specific function. Using a homolog of RNase III from yeast (Rnt1) we are studying the recognition and metabolism of double-stranded RNA. Rnt1 contains a conserved dsRNA binding domain and can specifically cleave duplex RNA. Using yeast as a simple model we are able to characterize the basic features that influence dsRNA recognition and elucidate mechanisms of gene regulation that involve dsRNases.
